UNB

The first-ever dialogue on migration between Bangladesh and the European Union (EU) will be held in the city today to discuss ‘all the aspects of migration management’, reports UNB.
A six-member delegation of the EU, led by Christian Leffler, deputy secretary general for Global and Economic issues of the European External Action Service (EEAS), arrived here yesterday morning to attend the dialogue, said a senior official at the Foreign Ministry.
Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque will lead the Bangladesh delegation at the EU-Bangladesh dialogue on migration to be held at the state guesthouse in the city.
The other members of the EU delegation are Maria Castillo Fernandez, head of division (India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh) Asia and Pacific, Raffaella Iodice, head of unit - Finance, Contract, Legal and Audit, Directorate General Development and Cooperation, Dana Spinant, head of unit, Irregular Migration and Return Policy, Directorate General Migration and Home Affairs, Emmanuel
Cabau, Policy Officer-Senior Expert, Irregular Migration and Return Policy, Directorate General Migration and
Home Affairs and Silvena Pesta, International Coordination and Relations Officer, Directorate General Migration and Home Affairs.
Pierre Mayaudon, the EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Frederic Maduraud, head of Political, Economic, Trade, Press and Information, EU Delegation to Bangladesh and Mario Ronconi, Head of Cooperation-Head of Unit, EU Delegation to Bangladesh, will also join the visiting delegation during the dialogue.
In line with the commitments undertaken by Bangladesh and the EU under the 2001 Cooperation Agreement on Partnership and Development, the 7th EU-Bangladesh Joint Commission was held in Dhaka on November 11 last year.
At that time, both sides agreed on a number of concrete steps, including developing dialogue on all aspects of migration management, the Foreign Ministry official told the news agency.
There is growing concern over illegal migration to Europe and the delegation is likely to discuss with high government officials on easing uncontrolled mass movement of the people into Europe.
