Bangladesh dashing opener Tamim Iqbal earned the distinction of scoring the highest aggregate run in the just concluded sixth edition of ICC World T20 Tournament in India.
Tamim amassed 295 runs in six matches with an average of 73.75. Even he pocketed the highest individual innings of 103 not out against Oman in the qualifying round. West Indies aggressive opener Chris Gayle hit the other century in the tournament. He hammered an unbeaten 100 against England in the group phase. He just managed to score only 113
On the other hand Indian top order batsman Virat Kohli was adjudged as player of the tournament with his sparkling form with the willow. He scored 23 runs less than Tamim to be placed second position in the most run scorers’ list. However, Kohli played five matches including four in group phase and the other one in the semifinal.
It was astonishing to see that two Afghan bowlers top the list in bowling. Mohammad Nabi, the gutsy all-rounder, bagged one dozen wickets at the cost of 164 runs in seven matches and he posted an economy rate of 6.07 runs per over. In all he bowled 27 overs. Rashid Khan was the other Afghan bowler who occupied the second place with 11 wickets.
However, another Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman also stole the show in the bowling department when he delivered the best bowling in an innings as he captured five for 22 against New Zealand and in all he grabbed nine wickets. He could play only in last three matches as he was sidelined with a side strain in the rest of the matches.
Shakib Al Hasan, the most valuable player of Bangladesh, once again showed his all-round performance as he ranked the best all-rounder in the tournament. Although a player of his stature could not show his true performance neither with the bat nor with the cherry. He just gathered 129 runs in seven matches with an average of 32.25. And in bowling he claimed ten wickets giving away 166 runs with his economic rate was 7.21.s
