If somebody else had any qualms about Mustafizur Rahman’s efficiency at away from the home, they were just blown away. On his first assignment outside from the country, the new pace sensation of Bangladesh had proved that he is here to dominate the world in the coming days.
He played just three matches in the tournament, considered as the third biggest cricketing extravaganza. But these three matches were enough to show his immense talent what made the world spellbound. The ICC also acknowledged his dazzling performance by giving him a place in the World T20 team 2016. He was selected as the 12th man and only player from Bangladesh but he easily could have made in the best XI should he played all of the matches.
The 20-yeard old claimed nine wickets, including five for 22 against New Zealand, the best bowling figure in the tournament. But the number didn’t show how he left the world class batsmen red-faced with sheer embarrassment.
His absence was severely felt in Bangladesh’s first match against Pakistan in the tournament’s main event. The Pakistan batsmen plundered toothless Bangladeshi bowlers to amass a gigantic 201 runs. But the inclusion of Mustafizur made Bangladesh a different team and they never conceded more than 157 runs in the rest of the three matches. It’s the batsman who actually sank Bangladesh while Mustafizur continued embarrassing batsmen with his lethal cutter and slower. The Australian and New Zealand batsmen felt the wrath as they couldn’t find out a way on how to deal with those deadly stock deliveries.
Both the teams admitted that the bowler is a hell of a bowler, saying, those deliveries were expected but still those were difficult to deal with. The performance however forced the experts to consider him even though Bangladesh couldn’t make room in the semi-final.
ICC press release adds: The teams were chosen by a select group of former cricket stars and highly respected commentators who were given the task of picking a balanced side for all conditions on the basis of performances in the tournament. Statistics were used but were not the sole basis for selections.
The men’s team, including 12th man, contained four players from England, two players each from India and the West Indies, and one each from Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand and South Africa, while the women’s team comprised four players from New Zealand, two players each from Australia, England and the West Indies, and one player each from Pakistan and South Africa.
The experts chose India’s Virat Kohli as captain of the men’s side while Stafanie Taylor of the West Indies was named to lead the women’s line-up.
Both teams include the respective players of the tournament, Virat Kohli of India and Stafanie Taylor of the West Indies. The two players, for their achievements, won glittering trophies as well as ICC World Twenty20 Gold limited edition watches from ICC Timing Partner, Hublot.
Men’s Team: 1. Jason Roy (England), 2. Quinton de Kock (South Africa), wicketkeeper), 3. Virat Kohli (India, captain), 4. Joe Root (England), 5. Jos Buttler (England), 6. Shane Watson (Australia), 7. Andre Russell (West Indies),
8. Mitchell Santner (New Zealand), 9. David Willey (England), 10. Samuel Badree (West Indies), 11. Ashish Nehra (India). 12th man. Mustafizur Rahman (Bangladesh).
