Robbers kill freedom fighter, hurt 4 in Gazipur

A gang of armed robbers allegedly killed a freedom fighter and injured four of his family members while committing crime in Kathora area of Gazipur city early yesterday.
The deceased was Poresh Chandra Gosh, 70, son of late Jogesh Chandra Gosh of the area. He was the accountant of Chandona Cinema Hall of Gazipur. cFamily members of the deceased and locals said a group of armed robbers numbering 14 to 15 entered a house owned by one Kartik Chandra Gosh in Kathora area of the city around 2am on Monday and looted gold ornaments and valuables from the house.
Later, they entered the neighbouring house owned by Noresh Chandra Gosh, an employee of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agriculture University, and locked the rooms from outside.
They held the family members hostage at gunpoint and looted valuables. The robbers hacked Noresh Chandra Gosh, his two sons with sharp weapons while they tried to resist them. Hearing screaming, their uncle Poresh Chandra Gosh and his son Goutam Gosh Polash tried to resist the robbers. At one stage, robbers opened fire to them, leaving Poresh dead on the spot and Polash injured. The locals rescued the injured and sent them to Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital. On information, police rushed to the spot on Monday morning and recovered the body and sent it to the same hospital morgue for autopsy.
Sub-inspector of Joydebpur police station Porimol Biswash confirmed the news and said, We primarily suspected that it was a robbery and trying to find out anything else behind the incident.
