T-20 World Cup

West Indies sensational win in the last over of the final was a fitting end to this exciting World Cup
T-20 World Cup

Congratulations to the West Indies for becoming the first team ever to win the T20 Cricket World Cup on two separate occasions. The fact that the team from the Carribbean Islands fought hard against ominous odds and emerged champions says as much about the natural ability of their players as their tremendous will to win. The dramatic end to the final–as Carlos Brathwaite smashed England's Ben Stokes for four successive sixes–was a befitting end to the tournament which produced a number of great matches.
Englad also deserve plaudits for the brilliant manner they played throughout this tournament. It is fair to say that the best two sides played in the final match.
T-20 cricket has definitely come to stay. The huge crowd in the final–a match the hosts were not one of the participants–is a testament to the immense popularity the format has achieved in a relatively short span of time. It has become the biggest crowd puller and money spinner of all the three formats of cricket. Indeed according to many experts the very survival of Test cricket--generally considered to be the purest form of the game–is becoming increasingly dependent on the success of T-20 cicket.
Seeing the format’s success at the international level, different Test playing nations came up with their own T20 leagues and teams down the years and today it has a huge market in world cricket. Contemporary cricketers are much more secure financially than their predecessors ever were. Thanks to T20 cricket the game seems to be in the middle of the greatest burst of popularity ever at the moment. If the ICC can build up the smaller nations, like Canada, the USA, the Netherlands and so on, we could see a real worldwide boost in the popularity of cricket. In whatever manner they choose to do it, cricket administrators have a great product on the field which they could sell all across the globe.
Coming back to the World Cup itself, Bangladesh cricket team proved that they have come of age in this format at last. Sure they lost all the four matches. However they could easily have won two of them if Lady Luck smiled a bit more at them. In the Asia Cup played just before this tournament they emerged as the second best team in Asia. In the qualifying stage of the World Cup they routed all their opponents. Some of players’ personal performances were among the best in the whole tournament.
The Tigers have a lot of positives to take from the tournament which will stand them in good stead in the future.
