Satkhira Jamaat ameer arrested

Police arrested Satkhira district Jamaat-e-Islami ameer and former MP Maulana Abdul Khalek Mandal Khalek with of a foreign pistol and two rounds of bullet from Khalilnagar Mahila Madrassa in sadar upazila yesterday morning.
Emdad Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Satkhira sadar police, said based on secret information, a team of police raided the madrassa while a group of Jamaat leaders and activists, including Khalek, were holding a secret meeting there at about 5:30 am.
He was sought in15 cases, including killing of Satkhira City College lecturer and former president of the district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League Mamun, general secretary of Shibpur union unit Awami League Rabiul and crimes against humanity during the liberation war in 1971.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, they exploded a few bombs and fled away. But police managed to arrest Khalek.
