BNP leader Mirza Abbas was released on bail from jail yesterday evening, reports UNB. He was freed from the prison cell of Birdem Hospital around 7pm, said Senior Jail Super of Dhaka Central Jail Jahangir Kabir. The Supreme Court on March 31 upheld a High Court verdict that granted bail to the BNP leader in a graft case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) for irregularities in allocating plots. On March 6, 2014, the ACC filed the graft case with Shahbagh Police Station against Mirza Abbas and several others on charge of corruption in plot allocation among journalists when he was the Housing and Public Works Minister. On January 6, 2015, a Dhaka court sent BNP leader Abbas to jail rejecting his bail petition in the two arson cases filed with Motijheel and Paltan police stations after he surrendered before the court.
