Gono Bishwabidyalay holds seminar
The Department of Microbiology of Gono Bishwabidyalay organised a seminar titled ‘symbiotic fungi and bacteria in arthropod vectors as tool for disease control’ at its seminar room at Savar yesterday, says a press release.
Sara Epis, researcher and teacher, Department of Veterinary Science and Public Health, General Pathology and Parasitological laboratory, University of Milan, Italy, delivered lecture as speaker with Rezwana Khan, head, Department of Microbiology, Gono Bishwabidyalay, in the chair.  Laila Parveen Banu, principal, Gonoshashthaya Samajvittik Medical College and Elena Martin, PhD Fellow of University of Milan, Italy also spoke in the seminar, among others.
NSU hosts gala dinner
North South University (NSU) hosted a gala dinner in honour of diplomats and media personalities on Sunday. Around 200 invitees from different parts, including editors and directors from print and electronic media, ambassadors, academician and senior citizens of the country, joined the dinner session. The programme started with welcome speech by Benajir Ahmed, chairman, Board of Trustees, North South University. Md Nazrul Islam Khan, secretary of Information and Communication Technology Ministry; Mahfuz Anam, editor, The Daily Star; M Shamsur Rahman, editor, The Independent; Lee Yun-young, Korean ambassador; Reazuddin Ahmed, editor, The News Today; Munir Hossain, director, ATN Bangla and Amin Sarkar, vice-chancellor of North South University delivered speeches.
Muqeed Majumdar Babu, director, Channel i; Shyamal Dutta, editor, The Daily Bhorer Kagoj; Humayun Kashem, managing editor, The Daily Sangbad; Mostafa Kamal, managing editor, The Daily Kaler Kantho; Swadesh Roy, managing editor, The Daily Janakantha; Md Jamilur Rahman, acting editor, The Daily Sun; Kazi Rukun Uddin Ahmad, editor, The Daily JaiJaiDin and representatives of The Daily Prothom Alo and The Financial Express were present in the dinner. Among the member of Board of Trustees of NSU Md Shajahan, Yasmin Kamal, Rehana Rahman and MA Kashem greeted the invited guest. Dhaka City Corporation (North) Mayor Annisul Huq congratulated the chairman of NSU for his contribution to higher studies in Bangladesh.
UGC signs deal with BRACU
To enhance the quality education in tertiary level, BRAC University (BRACU) has been awarded Tk 20.14 crore for the establishment of institutional quality assurance cell (IQAC) under the guidelines of Quality Assurance Unit of University Grants Commission (UGC).
Meanwhile, BRAC University has also decided to contribute Tk 80 lakh (in addition to the above total) as matching fund for the 3-year project.
The performance contract signing ceremony was held at the UGC on Sunday. BRAC University Vice-Chancellor Syed Saad Andaleeb and Md Tafazzal Hussain, director IQAC, BRAC University, were present at the signing ceremony along with other officials from both UGC and BRAC University.
