Rangpur: Proper attention, care, education and necessary training can ensure normal growth and flourishing inherent talents of the autistic and intellectually disabled children to turn them into worthy citizens, reports BSS. The views were expressed at a post-rally discussion arranged in observance of the World Autism Awareness Day- 2016 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises here on Saturday. The district administration and Department of Social Service (DSS) along with Society for Welfare of Intellectually Disabled (SWID) in Bangladesh and different organisations working with disabled people chalked out programmes to observe the day. The programmes included colourful rally, discussion and cultural function participated by the autistic and disabled children followed by prize distribution ceremony.
Led by Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar, a large number of autistic and disabled children, officials and employees, activists of different socio- cultural, voluntary professional, human rights, women organisations participated in the rally.
The Deputy Commissioner attended the discussion as chief guest with Deputy Director of the DSS Begum Nazmun Nahar in the chair. The speakers said the autistic, intellectually disabled and physically challenged children must not be treated as burden of the society and they equally deserve constitutional rights in getting all privileges.
They thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul for taking massive steps in establishing rights of autistic children and disabled people to ensure their education, jobs, education, health care and other facilities.
