State Minister for Labour and Employment Md Mujibul Haq yesterday said the government has undertaken an initiative to ensure occupational safety, reports BSS. It will make all workers particularly those related to the readymade-garment sector safe, he said. A workshop was organized by the Labour and Manpower ministry to the effect, at a local hotel, here today. Based on the recommendations of the workshop the OSH (Occupational Safety Hazard) profile would be finalized. Inaugurating the workshop, state minister for labor and employment, Md Mujibul Haq said “No subversion would be tolerated in the apparel industry. No indifference regarding the health of workers would be tolerated.” He said: “The key to success in the apparel industry was the health of workers. Every factory would have a committee to oversee it. “They will ensure workers’ safety and health. OSH profile would give a clear idea about safety and health of workers,” he added. He also said two 300-bed hospitals would be set up in Tongi and Narayanganj. “The tenders would be floated soon”, he said. Others who were present at the three-day workshop included Shirin Akhter, MP, and representatives of different trade unions.
