Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said yesterday digitalisation of movie houses, ending piracy and producing quality films were the three challenges facing Bangladesh movie industry currently, reports BSS. The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar jointly organised by the Bangladesh Film Archive and Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) to observe the National Film Day. Earlier, the information minister along with Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor led a rally to commemorate the day.
Chaired by the managing director of BFDC Tapan Kumar Ghosh, the seminar was also addressed by Information Secretary Mortuza Ahmed. Director-General of Bangladesh Film and Television Institute Dr Mohammad Jahangir Hossain presented the key-note paper titled: The crisis of dwindling viewers and the dissolution of movie houses: Ways to overcome the problems of Bangladesh cinema. Among others celebrated Cultural Personalities Hasan Imam, Moshiuddin Shaker, M Hamid and others participated in the seminar.
The information minister said cinema will survive, despite visualization in cell phones and TV screens, as viewers were transported to a different world when they enter a movie house. "Therefore, invest in movies, make good movies," the minister appealed to all concerned.
Inu also said the Bangabandhu film city being built in Kabirpur, Savar will be available for use in July, this year. Simultaneously a vast film, artists' and literary center would be built near the BFDC premises.
The information minister also said two full-length movies of international standard on the Liberation War and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman would have to be made.
Information Secretary Mortuza Ahmed said the laws had to be updated and technology had to be mastered to keep up with the times.
