Bogra: A newlywed young man was stabbed to death by criminals as he protested sexual harassment of women at a religious programme of the Hindu community in Shahjahanpur upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Sonatan Chandra Madok, 28, son of Suresh Madok of Gandogram village in the upazila. Police quoting local people said Ratan, brother-in-law of Sonatan, had an altercation with a group of 4-5 young men while they were harassing some women during ‘Haribas’ at Gandogram Kalibari around 11:30pm. The youths also beat Ratan. As Sonaton came in the rescue of his brother-in-law Ratan and protest their misdeed, the gangsters stabbed him, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, the Hindu community members brought out a procession along with the body in the district town yesterday morning protesting the killing. They went to the deputy commissioner’s (DC’s) office and demanded justice for Sonatan. Officer-in-charge of Shahjahanpur Police Station Alamgir Hossain said they arrested two people in connection with the murder.
