Some 12,887 students were absent on the first day of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations yesterday. Besides, 43 students were expelled on the first day for adopting unfair means. A total of 1,018,166 students under eight general education boards, Madrasah Education Board and Bangladesh Technical Education Board from 8,533 educational institutions sat for examinations. Of them, 838,255 appeared for the HSC exams under eight general education boards while 85,244 in Alim (Higher secondary level of madrasah) examinations, 90,638 in Bangladesh Technical Education exams and 4,029 students in Diploma in Business Studies (DIBS) exams. Apart from 2,452 centres in Bangladesh, the exams are being held in seven overseas centres where 262 students are taking part. This year, 11 more papers under six subjects were included in Creative Question System for the examinations. Physically challenged students are given 20 minutes extra time while autistic ones 30 minutes. The written examinations will end on June 9 while the practical tests would be held from June 11 to June 20.
