Veteran left arm spinner Abdur Razzak was descended to A category from A+ as the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) almost finalised the grading of the cricketers for the upcoming Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
Razzak was the highest wicket-taker in Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) with 38 wickets and claimed 28 wickets in National Cricket League (NCL) to be the third highest wicket-taker. But the dazzling form wasn’t enough to convince the club officials who had big say in finalising the grade of the cricketers.
Razzak however hasn’t been in selection rudder for a quite long time. The senior cricketer didn’t give up the hopes to return to the national team but the recent development indicated, it would be tough for him to regain his place in the national set up once again.  
Arafat Sunny who would continue his bowling modification work along with playing the DPL, replaced Razzak in A+ category which also included the players like Mustafizur Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, Nasir Hossain, Mominul Haque, Mithun Ali and Enamul Haque Bijoy.
Icon players list also included seven players—Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Sabbir Rahman and Imrul Kayes. The last two players were included in the elite club for the first time while Nasir Hossain demoted to A+ category from Icon.
“The club officials took the decision to promote Arafat Sunny to the A plus category, replacing Razzak,” said CCDM co-ordinator Amin Khan.
“I don’t know what’s the reason behind this decision but as far as I am concerned they took the decision unanimously.”
The Icon players will get Tk. 30 lakh while the A+ category players price is fixed as Tk. 25 lakh.  There will be 12 players in A category with the remuneration of Tk 12 lakh, 38 in B+ (Tk 15 lakh) category, 36 in B ( Tk 12 lakh) category, 59 in C ( Tk 8 lakh) category, 17 in D (Tk 5 lakh) and 32 in E ( Tk 3.5 lakh) category will be available for selection.
“The list can be changed. We are yet to finalise it. Hopefully we’ll do it within one of two days,” Amin Khan said.
Initially Sakib and Mustafiz were omitted from the list as they are expected to play in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), which will start on April 9, but they were kept in the list.
The DPL will begin on April 22 while the players’ by choice procedure will take place on April 10, the decisions were made at a meeting of the CCDM on Saturday.
