RAB man dies in road crash
A member of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) was killed in a road crash in the capital’s Uttara area early Saturday.
RAB media wing director Mufti Mahmud Khan confirmed the incident saying, “Md. Habibur Rahman, 41, warrant officer of Bangladesh Army and now working in the intelligence wing of RAB was killed in road accident in the morning.” His body was sent to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for autopsy. Rahman hailed from Kalihati of Tangail, he added.
Firearm recovered in capital
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has recovered a revolver with one bullet from Sarkar Bari area of East Arichapur under Tongi Police Station, said a statement of RAB yesterday morning. The statement of anti-crime elite force said the members of RAB-1 raided Sarker Bari where reportedly a gang of terrorists were holding a secret meeting there at night. Sensing their presence of law enforcement agency, the gang fled the scene. Later an abandoned revolver was recovered from the scene, it added.
Deworming week begins
Deworming week has been opened in the city formally with a call to build worm-free society collectively.
Acting Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Nizam-Ul Azim inaugurated the week through feeding a tablet to a baby at Surjakona School yesterday as chief guest.
Ward Councilors Mustaque Hossain and Nazma Khatun and Chief Health Officer Dr AFM Anjuman Ara Begum spoke on the occasion with headmaster of the school Rahima Khatun in the chair.
Mayor Nizam-Ul Azim called for making the week from April 2 to 7 a total success for building a worm-free society.
He underlined the need for creating widespread health awareness among the school-going children for controlling many communicable diseases. Terming the school students as the most vulnerable to worm infection, they called for making them aware about health hygiene and using sanitary latrine together with proper hand washing before taking every meal.
Electronic goods seized
Customs Intelligence (CI) early yesterday seized a covered van full of electronic fans, whose raw materials were imported evading taxes, at Akbar Shah area in Chittagong
Director General of Customs Intelligence Dr Mainul Khan confirmed the news.
He said the CI team in its preliminary investigation found that MS Golden Sun, a Customs Bonded Factory in Chittagong, was scheduled to sell those electronic fans to Kushtia market. Earlier, on Wednesday CI team seized two covered vans of electronic fans form the same reason in the city
Six ‘robbers’ arrested
Police in a drive arrested six alleged robbers from a residential hotel in Sylhet city on Saturday night.
The arrestees were identified as Md Jashim, 23, Md Sohel, 23, Md Mizan, 20, Nasim Miah, 22, hailing from Muradnagar upazila in Comilla district, Sohel, 23, from Brahmanbari, and Md Rubel, 22 from Chittagong.
Sohel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kotowali Police Station, said being tipped off, police raided “Hotel Majlis’ in the city around 11:30am and arrested them from rooms no 406, 201 and 305.
‘Police also recovered weapons used in robbery from their possession’ added the OC.
