Training of 1,800 govt officials on e-governance complete

Training of 1,800 government officials has so far been completed at home and abroad on e-governance including cyber security to check the fast growing cybercrimes causing a serious threat to the information, data and services of the government, reports BSS.
The 1,800 officials have been given training as part of the government's plan of providing training to a total of 2,500 officials including IT personnel of the ministries, departments and directorates to build their capacity to run e-governance activities, especially checking cyber threat under the World Bank financed Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project of the government, official sources said. The 70 million US dollar LICT Project of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) under ICT Division has been launched in February 2013 to establish e-government foundation and build skilled human resources for the IT sector of Bangladesh.
"We want to build capacity of government officials to run e-governance activities including IT project management, ethical hacking, cyber security," said ICT Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder. He said the government in line with Digital Bangladesh Vision has digitised many of its services, information and data to reach hassle-free services to the doorstep of the people. It has now become inevitable to protect IT services, information and data as cybercrimes pose a serious threat to ensure uninterrupted services, he added.
The ICT secretary said the ICT Division has taken various steps including enactment of cyber law and training of government officials at home and abroad to enhance efficiency to deal IT issues including checking of cyber-attacks. The government cannot sit idle at a time when cybercrimes have become a global concern, said Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council S M Ashraful Islam.
He said public sector efficiency is a must to protect own IT system and secure e-services and it can be done through quality training.
According to sources, a significant number of the 1800 government officials have received quality training from National University of Singapore and ESI Training Institute of Delhi. Deputy Project Director of LICT Project and Director of National Data Centre Tarique M Barkatullah said the training of government officials will help increase public sector efficiency to deal e-governance issues as the government has been modernising public sector, improving reliability and security of government services. "We have organised training for about 1800 government officials at Singapore and Delhi and Bangladesh so far and the rest 700 officials will be provided training in the reputed institutions in the days to come," he said.
