The Parliamentary Standing Committee on LGRD and Cooperatives Ministry yesterday recommended realising outstanding and current holding taxes in the city corporations, reports BSS.
The recommendation was made at the 11th meeting of the standing committee at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with committee Chairman Abul Hasnat Abdullah in the chair, said an official release. Committee members Alhaj Advocate M Rahamat Ali, Fazle Hossain Badsha and Begum Rahima Aktar attended the meeting.
The meeting suggested expediting further the automation of accounts and revenue collection activities in the city corporations in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Barisal, Khulna and Sylhet. It also recommended appointing new law officials for Dhaka North and South City Corporations in place of the existing ones. The committee suggested presenting in the next meeting the information about the expenditure of money of the project 'Pollution Control Measures of Gulshan-Baridhara Lake by Diverting the Drainage Outlets' implemented by Dhaka WASA.
The committee recommended taking proper steps after getting scrutinised the probe report on irregularities committed during the tenure of former Dhaka City Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka.
Senior officials of LGRD and Cooperatives Ministry and other officials concerned were present at the meeting.
