Elita Kingsley scored the season’s first goal, as Team BJMC got off to a winning start in their domestic football season with defeating Rahamtganj MFS by a solitary goal yesterday in the KFC Independence Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Meanwhile, the league committee of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) again forced to make a reschedule of the Independence Cup while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club last of all agreed to play in the tournament, their earlier decision was not to take part without having eight players, who played last season for them and signed for other teams this season. Sheikh Jamal will now play in Group A.
But the defending Bangladesh Premier League champions Jamal made a late decision to participate in the Independence Cup without those eight players and the league committee included them.
The committee then had to call on an emergency meeting yesterday about to bring some changes in their earlier schedule, which was comprised with 11 teams excluding Sheikh Jamal, who refused to play.
In the opening day of the inaugural tournament one match took place instead of two when BJMC and Rahmatganj played the first match and the second match between Brothers Union and Baridhara shifted to April 2 with only one match will take place today at 6:30pm.
However, in the day’s only encounter, Rahmatganj despite keeping better ball possession in the full 90 minutes time had to suffer defeat, as their forwards looked not sharp to open spaces defeating the opponents’ defense. Sometimes they were unfortunate not having goal as BJMC goalkeeper denied some good attempts and an effort from Sohel Rana hit the side post.
Elita Kingsley was lucky enough to have the first goal of the season when his free kick entered into the far corner of the net after hitting the wall and Rahmatganj keeper missed the flight of the ball for uneven swing on 40th minute (1-0).
Elita could begin the season with a couple of goals but he could not convert a penalty on 71st minute when his left footer was denied by the Rahamtganj keeper Al Amin with a right hand dive.
