Man gets life for killing girl in Rajshahi

Rajshahi: A tribunal here on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment after killing a teenage girl in 2006, reports UNB. Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Golam Ahmed Khalilur Rahman sentenced Ariful Islam of Ranisangkail upazila of Thakurgaon district to life term imprisonment and fined him Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer one year more rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, Ariful Islam, a peon of a local school strangulated Puja Bala, 16, of Narayanpur village in Ranisangkail upazila following an illicit relationship with her on May 8, 2006. Later police submitted a charge sheet against Ariful. In November last year, the case was shifted to Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal. After examining records and 12 witnesses, the tribunal judge, Golam Ahmed Khalilur Rahman, handed down the verdict.
