RMG workers demand Apr 24 as mourning day

Garments workers demanded declaration of April 24, Rana Plaza tragedy day, as workers mourning day and public holiday. The workers under the banner of Bangladesh Garment Workers Federation made the demand forming a human chain in front og the National Press Club yesterday. Speakers at the human chain said Rana Plaza disaster killed 1,136 workers, left more than 2,500 people injured as they were pulled from the rubble alive. They demanded rehabilitation and treatment for the injured workers. They also made 6-point demands including punishment of the people who were responsible for Rana Plaza building collapse and Tazreen Fashions fire. Sultan Bahar, president of the federation, made the demands on behalf of the garments workers. To meet the demands, different programmes, including meetings in different areas, rallies, leaflet distribution and programmes to show respect the dead at Jurain graveyard on April 24, were announced from the human chain.
