HC takes up graft case plea against Tarique

Staff Reporter

The High Court yesterday (Thursday) asked the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate to inform it on the legal status of the summons to BNP vice-chairman Tarique Rahman in a graft case. A bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain directed the magistrate to communicate with the foreign ministry and inform the court whether the summons has reached Tarique’s London address. The BNP leader went to London in September 2008 for treatment and is living there ever since.
The bench gave the order while hearing an appeal filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against a trial court order that had acquitted Tarique in a graft case involving Tk. 20.41 crore.
