BNP candidate boycotts polls
Sherpur: A BNP-backed chairman candidate boycotted the election in Urfa union parishad in Nakla upazila on charges of various irregularities, reports UNB. The chairman aspirant Rustom Ali announced the election boycott at about 11:30 am. The candidate pulled out of the race accusing the men of the ruling party of capturing Baromaisa Government Primary School polling centre, obstructing his supporters in casting votes, forcing his agents out of the centre and also casting fake votes.

16 held with 20 crude bombs
Comilla: Police arrested 16 people, all outsiders, along with 20 crude bombs from a house adjacent to a polling centre in Adra union of Barura upazila on Thursday morning, reports UNB. Officer-in-charge of Muradnagar Police Station Mizanur Rahman said tipped off, a team of police conducted a raid on the house of Najimuddin, uncle of AL-nominated chairman candidate Manjur Hossain Majumder, beside Perpeti polling centre and arrested 16 people around 10:00 am. The law enforcers also recovered 20 crude bombs after searching the house.

Cow fattening tablets seized
Dinajpur: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 10,500 pieces of cow fattening tablets, 342 pieces of yaba tablets and 178 bottles of phensidyl from a train in Phulbari Railway Station of the district yesterday, reports BSS. On a tip-off, a BGB team raided a compartment of the train and seized the tablets and drugs in an abounded condition. None was arrested in this connection.

Unidentified body recovered
MUNSHIGANJ: Police retrieved an unidentified dead body from Isamoti River at Dowsharpara area in Sirajdikhan upazila of the district on Wednesday, reports BSS. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered the unidentified body from the Isamoti river at Dowsharpara area of the upazila, SI Manik of Sirajdikhan thana said. The body was sent to Munshiganj General Hospital for postmortem, he added.
