Benapole: Police arrested an assistant presiding officer as he allegedly facilitated casting fake votes for the Awami League-backed chairman candidate in Churamankathi union of Jessore Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB. Police also arrested an agent of the AL candidate Babul Hossain. District election officer Tareq Ahmed said supporters of the AL-backed candidate stormed Churamankati Government Primary School polling centre and started casting fake votes with the help of the assistant presiding officer, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Akbar, a senior teacher of Jessore Police Lines High School, at about 9:45 am. Voting at the centre was suspended following the incident. Besides, there was also allegation of casting fake votes.
