Khaleda calls for dialogue

Shun violence and anarchy, she tells Awami League

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday (Thursday) called upon the ruling Awami League to resolve the current political impasse through talks by shunning the path of violence and anarchy. “We have already called upon the government to take the initiative for talks with all to resolve the prevailing crisis and establish a representative government of the people through an acceptable election. The ball is now in the ruling party’s court. I do hope they will shun the path of violence and resolve the impasse through talks,” she said while speaking as the chief guest at the national conference of a faction of the Islami Oikya Jote at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.
The former Premier alleged that ruling party people are seeking not only votes but are also grabbing the wealth of the people.
“The people want to be free from such a situation and want a congenial atmosphere,” she said. Khaleda Zia said democracy, good governance and people’s government does not exist in the country at present. All government institutions have collapsed and anarchy is prevailing. Law and order has deteriorated severely.
She criticized the government for its misdeeds and failure to ensure security and safety of the people and their wealth. “Public wealth even in the country’s central bank is not safe. The money is being swindled abroad through digital heist,” she said.
The BNP chief regretted that youths are going astray and the nation's culture is in danger due to the invasion by foreign culture. But, she said, the government has not taken any initiative to protect national interests.
“Bangladesh is becoming friendless and isolated from the international arena. The rulers are busy clinging  on to power by choosing the path of loyalty, instead of maintaining friendly relations,” she said.
Khaleda recalled the sacrifices of the ulema in restoring people’s rights and establish justice in society, and said countrymen expect that they would play their due role in future too.
Citing from the Hadith, she said the most virtuous Jihad is to speak the truth in front of an oppressive ruler.
“Please, unite and raise your voice to establish good governance, people’s government, restore people's rights, save people and their religious values and protect the nation's interests and dignity,” she urged the ulema.
She said pious people and the ulema are being harassed and people of any religion are not safe now.
Khaleda emphasised the need for presenting the future generation with a new path by coming out from the present sick politics of the country.
