Dont allow corruption, apathy

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked the new members of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) to work as public servants and not to indulge in corruption and allow apathy in their activities, reports UNB. Dont indulge in corruption and dont let others to indulge in corruption. You must discharge your duties with honesty as public servants because all of your salaries and allowances come from the hard-earned money of the common people, she said.
The Prime Minister said this while addressing the Certificate Award Ceremony among participants of the 60th Foundation Training Course of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.
Sheikh Hasina directed the new civil service officials to make sure there is no sluggishness in their activities due to bureaucratic tangles. Discharge your duties with utmost patriotism...you must love and know the country and its people. You cant neglect the common people...you must ensure they always get the desired services.
Putting emphasis on maintaining the rule of law in the country by public servants, she said there would be no development without the rule of law and stability.
The Prime Minister said Bangladesh could not move ahead with the desired pace after the assassination of the Father of the Nation as whenever there is military ruler in any country, they only spoke against corruption, but adopted corruption as their policy. That also happened in Bangladesh for which the country could not move ahead after 1975.
Apart from expediting the implementation of various programmes and projects related to economic development, she suggested the new officials of various cadres to maintain high standard in implementing development and ensure better outcome for the targeted beneficiaries.
Quoting some lines from the speech delivered by Bangabandhu on February 1, 1972 before public servants at Ganobhaban, Hasina said the new officials would have to perceive the essence of the Father of the Nations speech and devote themselves to public service keeping national interest above everything.
Hasina said only raising strongly voice against corruption will not work as there is a need to take proper steps to curb the menace.
