Stocks continue to gain

Share price indices at the country’s twin bourses -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) --continued to gain yesterday amid increased participation.
The DSE benchmark index, DSEX gained 29.16 points or 0.65 per cent to close at 4506.72 on the day. The DS30, comprising blue chips went up by 10.95 points or 0.63 per cent to close at 1741.82 points and the DSES, Shariah index, also increased by 6.7 points or 0.61 per cent to close at 1101.70 points.
Of the 309 issues traded, 190 gained, 83 declined and 36 remained unchanged at DSE floor on the day.
Heavy buying of shares mainly from cement, engineering and miscellaneous sector helped the bourse to edge higher in all the indices.
Shares worth Tk 410.59 crore changed hands at the DSE yesterday as against Tk 318.66 crore on Monday.
The bourse witnessed slight volatility during the session amid sceptical trading.
However, heavy buying pressure in several issues during the late hours helped the bourse to sustain in green, International Leasing Securities Limited, a stock brokerage said in its daily market update.
“Fortune hunter investors preferred to take position on stocks that witness irrational fall in recent period despite the notable budgetary incentives announced for the market,” the stock brokerage added.
The day’s top 10 gainers at the DSE were Hakkani Pulp & Paper, Legacy Footwear, Miracle Industry, Ifad Autos, Far Chemical Industries, Al-Haj Textile, Prime Bank 1st ICB AMCL Mutual Fund, Standard Ceramic, Beach Hatchery, and The Dacca Dyeing & Manufacturing.
The top five turnover leaders at the DSE were United Air, Familytex, Khulna Power Company, Rak Ceramics, and Grameenphone.
The CSE key index, CASPI gained 93.60 points to reach 13854.78 at close yesterday. Of the 240 issues traded, 131 advanced, 72 suffered loss and 37 remained unchanged.
The value of the traded issues at the CSE was Tk 34.92 crore on the day.
