Entertainment has certainly come a long way. Nowadays, high-definition smart televisions come with an array of features and services that make viewing a worthwhile experience. It seems that with every technological progress, TV entertainment is moving one step closer to the future.
Commercials advertising the merits of foreign DTH TV (direct-to-home television) services, like Tata Sky and Dish TV, can regularly be seen on satellite channels. DTH is a digital satellite television distribution service where viewers receive television signals directly from the satellite through a set-top box installed in their homes. Viewers can enjoy a variety of features, in addition to high definition (HD) pictures and sound.
DTH services eliminate the need for cable infrastructure, which local viewers must now use to watch satellite television. Soon, Bangladeshi viewers, too, can look forward to the same viewing experience. TV entertainment is about to get more real.
Under the brand name RealVU, BEXIMCO Communications Limited is soon going to launch the country’s first DTH service, where subscribers will get over 100 channels, including more than 26 Bangla channels and five HD ones.
“We are ready to provide DTH services under the RealVU brand name very soon, which will drastically change the viewing experience of the Bangladeshi TV audience,” Dmitry Lapitskiy, CEO of BEXIMCO Communications, said at a press conference unveiling the logo of RealVU in the capital recently.
RealVU is a joint venture between BEXIMCO and GS Group, a Russian investment company. RealVU will provide the best picture quality and sound to the viewers at the most affordable price.
Initially, customers will need to get a set-top box and a dish-antenna, and after installation and the first payment, they can enjoy RealVU. The monthly charge for DTH service will be about Tk 300. BEXIMCO Communications has finalised a list of distributors, so that customers can easily get the service from the nearest location.
“The new operator, which will initially launch the DTH broadcasting in the metropolitan areas, will also cover the entire country gradually thanks to ABS satellite beam. The picture quality provided by RealVU will be much better than analogue cable TV quality. The service will be available sometime in April/May,” Lapitskiy added.
In December 2013, the government awarded licence to Beximco Communications Ltd to launch DTH service in the country, and the company has already received the necessary approval from BTRC (Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission). It is now at the final stage of offering the new revolutionary format of TV viewing to customers.
“We are most certainly moving forward in the field of television entertainment. With RealVU, the new next generation, one of a kind viewing experience will reach the viewers soon. The features and services that are seen in the foreign commercials will soon be a reality in this country,” said Prakash Das, director of Beximco Communications Ltd.
Explaining the brand’s name and tagline, Noor E Tazrian Khan, PR and communications manager for Beximco Communications, said: “The name RealVU was chosen because the impeccable picture quality and realistic features that will be provided are as closer to reality as the viewers can get. The tagline is ‘Life Ekhon Really Rongin’ (Life is now really colourful). This is because the excellent viewing quality and the satisfaction that will be derived from it will add colour to life, and the viewers will most certainly have a great experience.”
As the largest private sector group in Bangladesh, Beximco Group has been successfully catering to specific needs and services for decades, with attention to detail and quality. The corporate mission is ‘taking Bangladesh to the world’. They are about to take yet another successful step forward through RealVU.
