The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is trying to put a system in place to stamp the chucking problem out from the domestic cricket.
A bowling action monitoring committee which will look into the action in all of the competition in domestic circuit, will be formed soon, said BCB Cricket Operations chairman Akram Khan.
“We’ll form a committee for monitoring the bowling action in a bid to uproot the illegal bowling action from the domestic circuit. They will identify the bowlers who has problem with action and then take necessary steps,” Akram said yesterday.
The legality of the bowlers bowling action has recently come to the light once two main bowlers of the country—Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny—were banned from bowling in the international cricket. Even though Bangladesh weren’t pleased with the decision of Taskin, the policy makers of the BCB didn’t disagree with the fact that chucking problems in Bangladesh cricket has been existed for a long period.
The BCB recognised the problem and is trying to put systems in place. “Domestic cricket, junior cricket is the place where we can stop them. It’s too tough to call a bowler once he has bowled with such an action for a long time,” Akram pointed out.
Akram however is hopeful that both Taskin and Arafat Sunny will prove their action right to return to the international cricket very soon.
Both of them however will play the upcoming Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, slated to begin in the second week of April.
“As per ICC guidelines, they can play domestic cricket. So it’s not a problem at all. At the same time, they will continue their rehabilitation and when they will be confident about them, they will go for further test.”
Akram reiterated BCB’s stance to take a zero tolerance on disciplinary issue. His comment came at the moment when a player of the team is believed to breach the team rules. Without mentioning the player’s name, Akram said, “We’ve taken some decision for the development of some players that you all get to know in time. I also want to point out that the board is serious about discipline. I think the board will not show any tolerance this time also.”
Before talking to the reporters, Akram had meeting with head coach Chandika Hathurusingha along with CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury and team manager Khaled Mahmud. Vice president Mahbub Anam and selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu were also present. They discussed about the future plan of Bangladesh cricket. They have also discussed about the coaching stuffs as the tenure of Hathurusingha and bowling coach Heath Streak almost came to an end.
Both of them are likely to get an extension which will be decided after the consultation with the board president Nazmul Hassan Papon.
“Normally we take such sort of decision in the board meeting. They have worked brilliantly so far. The final decision will be taken after the consultation with the board president,” Akram informed.
Like the captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Akram Khan also believed that the suspension of the key bowlers made Bangladesh mentally down during the Super 10 stage of the World Twenty20.
“Bangladesh have been playing better cricket since the start of the World Twenty20. We’d no rhythm in T20 but after the end of the T20 Asia Cup we got the much-needed rhythm. Against all the odds we had to play the qualifier. We’ve performed well despite the weather, condition and wicket.” said Akram Khan yesterday.
“Taskin’s suspension surprised me like all. It’s a great blow for the team. It mentally downed the players. It affected on other matches. Finally the team played outstanding against Australia and India.”
Former skipper said that they are worried much about ‘A team’ rather than the national team and mulling to arrange series or tour for them.
“National team played so many games during last one and half-a-year. We think they all have needed some respite. We’ve premier league ahead. They will perform there. But we’re very much worried about ‘A-Team’. We’re mulling to fix series or tour for them during this gap. We can send them  abroad or bring any foreign A-team here. We’ll work on those options. We all know that when we formed A team, where 70 to 80 percent national players are there,” he revealed.
