One held with yaba tablets
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug-trader with 885 pieces of yaba tablets from Chamta Sakin area under Charghat Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The detained person was identified as Hanif Ali, 27, son of late Rahim Uddin of Bhobannagar village under Puthiya Upazila of the district. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a sudden raid in the area at around 5.30 pm and arrested him with the contraband item.
Road repairing works opens
Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu launched repairing works of two-kilometre long road from Khasbag Government Primary School to Jalil Mian's House in the city on Sunday afternoon.
The city mayor, also a valiant freedom fighter, formally inaugurated the road repairing works by unveiling plaque at a ceremony arranged at Khasbag area as the chief guest.
The RCC has been implementing the road repairing works under construction packages of roads and drains in five groups at Taka 4.32 crore.
9 shops fined by BSTI
The regional office of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institutions (BSTI) has expedited drives against selling of substandard and adulterated foods and fined owners of nine shops Taka 53,300 in Rajshahi on Sunday, BSTI sources here said yesterday.
According to the officials concerned, the BSTI in cooperation with the district administration conducted mobile court in different areas.
The court led by Executive Magistrate Shukla Sarker lodged separate cases against nine shop owners on charges of possessing and selling of substandard and unhygienic food items besides violation of BSTI rules and regulations. The court realised Taka 53,300 from the shop owners as fine and disposed of the cases on the spot.
Blood donation campaign
Tiger Golf Club (TGC) organised a blood donation campaign at Kurmitola Golf Club (KGC) on Saturday marking the Independence Day, says a press release.
On the occasion 48 bags of blood were collected. President of TGC and the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia Iwan Wiranata-atmadja, vice-president of KGC, Maj. Gen Mizanur Rahman Khan, the Chief Executive Officer of KGC, Brig. Gen Mohd. Obaidul Haque, golfers and golf club members were present. The said humanitarian campaign was co-sponsored with KGC and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
