40 DU students get Sufia Kamal scholarship
Forty students of the Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall of Dhaka University have received the ‘Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall Trust Fund Scholarship-2016’ for their excellent academic performances. Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique on Saturday distributed scholarship among the students at the Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall's auditorium in the university, said a press release here on Sunday. Provost of the hall Prof Dr Nilufar Nahar presided over the scholarship handing over ceremony.
JU, BSMRMU sign MoU
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on education and research was signed on Sunday between Jahangirnagar University (JU) and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRMU). The MoU was signed at council room on the JU campus while JU Treasurer Abul Khair and Registrar of BSMRMU Commodore M Abidur Rahman signed on behalf of their respective institutions. Vice-Chancellor of BSMRMU Rear Admiral ASM Abdul Baten, Dean Commodore M Ziyauddin Alamgir and JU Registrar Abu Bakr Siddique were present at the function, among others.
Programming contest at SUST
The regional level ongoing National High School Programming Contest-2016 was held recently at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet.
Chaired by SUST Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Aminul Haque Bhuiyan, noted writer and a distinguished faculty member of SUST Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal also attended the programme. A total of 20 winners were awarded in two categories of the programming contest and 60 winners were awarded in three categories of quiz contest. A country-wide promotional and awareness building campaign is already underway to inform and encourage the high school students to take part in the national level programming contest.
Activation programmes were already held in 600 schools. As per the plan, such programmes will also be held in 1,000 schools across the country.
ICT Division has started the programme from last year aiming at encouraging the students to take up computer programming as a step to join the digital revolution. Just like the last year, the regional level programming contest is being held in 16 cities of the country. These are Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Chittagong, Barisal, Dhaka, Gopanganj, Dinajpur, Pabna, Patuakhali, Tangail, Noakhali, Comilla, Jessore and Mymensingh. The national level contest will be held on April 16 at Krishibid Institute with the country-wide winners of the regional contests.
Independence Day celebrated at EWU
East West University (EWU) and the Liberation War Museum jointly organised a special programme to celebrate the Independence Day on Saturday at EWU’s permanent campus at Aftabnagar in the capital, says a press release.
The programme, included speeches, picture and poster exhibition, documentary exhibition on Liberation War, recitation of poem, and patriotic song.
Speeches were given by architect Yafes Osman, Minister, Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury Bir Bikram, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser to the Prime Minister, Dr Mohammed Farashuddin,Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of East West University and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Shamsul Alam, freedom fighter, Dr Sarwar Ali and Tariq Ali, Trustee of Liberation War Museum, Roquaiya Hasina Neely and Asif Munir , members of “Projonmo Ekattor”. The ceremony was also attended by Prof Dr MM Shahidul Hassan, Vice-chancellor of East West University and Dr Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, member of the Board of Trustees of East West University.
