Social movement against corruption stressed

BSS

RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a post-rally discussion have underscored the need for forging social movement against corruption for building a poverty-free Bangladesh, reports BSS.
They viewed community participation towards the anti-corruption campaign has become an urgent need for building mass-opinion against the social disease.
Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) organised the meeting at Rajshahi College Auditorium to mark the observance of Anti Corruption Week- 2016. City unit of Corruption Prevention Committee (CPC) supported the meeting.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahmed and Director General of ACC Nur Ahmed addressed the meeting as the chief and special guest respectively with Prof Nural Alam, Vice-President of CPC, in the chair. Principal of Rajshahi College Prof Habibur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Kazi Ashraf Uddin, SP Nisharul Arif, ACC Divisional Director Abu Sayeed and Deputy Director Fayaz Ahemd also spoke.
The discussants laid importance on creation of awareness among the mass people, especially the young generation, to eliminate corruption from the society. Concerted effort is crucially important to check bribery as it is impossible for the ACC alone to fight corruption, they mentioned. They called upon the media to come forward in support of the campaign. All quarters should have to launch fight against corruption that hinders economic progress.
The speakers further said institutional corruptions have to be checked first before taking lawful action against a person who involved in corruption willingly or unwillingly.
The participants also said though elimination of corruption is very difficult task, nevertheless, we have to work together to reduce corruption. Earlier, the ACC officials and representatives of the associate organisations brought out an anti-corruption rally from Rajshahi College premises and paraded through different city streets for building mass- awareness against corruption. The rally followed a 30-minute human chain at Shaheb Bazar crossing.
