SYLHET: Bus-truck owners and drivers blocked Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the city on Monday morning following a dispute with the police, reports UNB.
The blockade created a huge traffic jam on the highway as well as on regional roads, leading to immense sufferings of people.
The owners-workers took position on the highway around 9am.
According to Sylhet Truck-Bus owners’ Association, local police administration asked them to provide 40 vehicles for the upcoming union parishad (UP) polls.
Despite providing the transports as per the demand, the traffic police took away two more bus to the Police Line.
The owners-workers blocked the highway to protesting the incident.
Later, Zedan Al Musa, Additional Police Commissioner (ADC) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police assured them about taking steps against the incident.
Following the assurance, they withdrew their blockade around 12am.
