Brahmanbaria: Explosion of crude bombs and snatching of ballot boxes by ‘unidentified miscreants’ prompted the authorities to keep balloting at a centre in Brahmanbaria municipality suspended for two hours yesterday, reports UNB. The municipality along with nine other municipalities went to polls on the day. Sources said around 15 minutes after the polling began at the Poniout Government Primary School centre, a group of miscreants stormed the centre. They blasted 8-10 crude bombs and snatched away a number of ballot boxes terrorising the on-duty election officials and others concerned.
The incident forced the authorities to keep the polling halted, which resumed after two hours.
The municipality has a total of 1.02 lakh voters, among whom 51, 027 are males and 51,910 females.
Polling is taking place in 48 centres under 12 wards of the municipality. Five contenders are in the mayoral race.
