The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry for Environment and Forests yesterday recommended realizing fines and filing cases as per the law to stop hill cutting in different parts of the country, reports BSS.
The recommendation was made at the 20th meeting of the standing committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with committee chairman Mohammad Hasan Mahmud in the chair, said an official release.
Committee members Abdullah Al Islam Jacob, Tipu Sultan, M Ilias Ali and Merina Rahman attended the meeting.
The committee constituted a three-member body to probe recruitments under Climate Change Trust, Department of Forests and Forestry Research Institute.
Tipu Sultan was made the convener of the probe committee while M Yahiya Chowdhury and Merina Rahman members.
A list of illegal occupants of forests land in Gazipur was presented in the meeting.
The meeting was told that so far Tk 3000 crore has been deposited for the climate change fund. Under the fund, 397 projects are being implemented currently in the country.
The standing committee recommended strengthening monitoring of the project activities and taking new projects to increase use of surface water and reduce dependence on ground water.
It also suggested opening Mongla-Ghashiakhali channel to stop plying vessels through the Shyala River in the Sundarbans. Senior officials concerned were present at the meeting.
