The purchase committee has approved a proposal of the civil aviation ministry to appoint British aviation security company named ‘Redline Aviation Security Limited’ to address the ongoing security threats and vulnerabilities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA). The approval was given at a meeting of the committee, held at the secretariat with Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed in the chair yesterday.
After the meeting, Tofail Ahmed, who chaired the meeting instead of Finance Minister AMA Muhith, told reporters that the 29 members of the Redline Aviation Security Limited will
begin work after the signing an agreement between the civil aviation authorities and the company today (Monday).
“We have appointed the British company following the advise of the UK government and we hope that the British government will withdraw their embargo, allegedly imposed for aviation security threats,” he said.
Civil aviation minister Rashed Khan Menon said that the British company will also supervise the security and help the officials of the civil aviation authorities to increase the capabilities of employees.
“The Redline Aviation Security Limited will provide required services and carry out tasks for two years at a cost of Tk 73.98 crore,” he said.
According to the proposal, the authorities concerned will take necessary measures-immediate term, short term and mid term basis at the HSIA to address the ongoing security threats.
Under the immediate term measures, the newly appointed British company will assist airport director on overall management of security functions, deploy requisite number of operational managers to assist airport security director and deploy requisite number of supervisors and operators to run the security operations to ensure early application of a satisfactory standard that can keep the airport operational, the proposal said.
