2 injured in Sylhet clash
A woman and another person were injured in an attack over repayment of borrowed money at Alapur Kaliganj village in Bishwanath upazila in Sylhet on Saturday afternoon.
The injured were identified as Rahima Begum, 32, wife of Ramjan Ali, and rickshaw puller Kalam, 35, a resident of the village. Police said Sitar Ali, son of Hasmat Ullah, had borrowed Tk 3 lakh from Rahima. Sitar swooped on her as she went to seek repayment of her money from him around 4am and hit her on the head, leaving her critically injured. As Kalam came to save Rahima, Sitar also attacked him, leaving him injured. The injured were admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital. On information, police visited the spot.
Air to air firing begins today
Air to air live firing exercise by aircrafts of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) will start today at Kutubdia firing range in Chittagong.
The exercise will continue till March 31 everyday from 8 am to 5.30 pm, said a release yesterday. The pilots and personnel of different ranks of BAF will participate in the exercise.
2 women yaba traders held
Chittagong district Police in a raid arrested two women yaba traders with 1,000 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from College gate area under Chandanaish upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The arrestees were identified as Anwara Begum,48, and Parvin Akter,30, both hailing from Teknaf upazila of Coxs Bazar district. On receipt of secret information, a team of Chandanaish thana police raided a Chittagong bound passenger bus from Coxs bazaar and arrested them with 1,000 pieces contraband yaba tablets at 11 on Saturday night, said Gazi Mohammad Shawkat Hossain, officer in charge of Chandhanaish thana. A case was filed in this connection.
Shibir leader arrested
Chittagong district police arrested an Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) leader from Kanchona area under Satkania upazila on Friday night.
The arrested ICS leader Mohammad Selim, 27 is son of Mohammad Abul Hossain, hailing from Kanchona village of Satkhania upazila of the district. Based on secret information, a team of Satkania thana police arrested Selim from Kanchona village of Satkania upazila of the district at 2am Friday night. He was wanted in five cases on charges of act of sabotage and vandalism at different police stations, Mohammad Farid Uddin, officer in Charge of Satkania thana police said.
