RANGPUR: Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr AKM Nurun Nabi yesterday said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is immortal and he is Bangladesh, reports BSS.
"Bangabandhu lives among us, will live in the heart of every Bangalee forever, Bangladesh cannot be thought without Bangabandhu as Bangladesh and Bangabandhu is quite inseparable," he said.
"The young generations must know about Bangabandhu and War of Liberation to prepare them from now for building the Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Bangabandhu," he said while addressing a post-rally discussion at Independence Memorial in the campus as the chief guest.
The discussion was arranged in observance of the 97th birthday of Bangabandhu and National Children's Day- 2016 through various programmes with Convener of the Observance Committee Professor Dr Morshed Hossain in the chair.
The programmes included placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu by the VC at Independence Memorial along with the teachers, students, officials and employees, competitions for children of different schools on Bangabandhu and prize distribution.
Later, wreaths were placed at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Independence Memorial on behalf of Begum Rokeya University Teachers' Association, Dr Wazed Research Institute, different residential halls and other organisations of the university.
Earlier, a huge colourful rally, led by the VC with participation of hundreds of students, teachers, officials and employees of the university, was brought out in the campus.
In the beginning, Professor Nabi formally inaugurated observance of the day by cutting a cake at the same venue.
Professor of the Department of Bengali of the university Professor Dr Nazmul Haque presented the keynote essay on 'Bangabandhu and Bangladesh' at the discussion.
Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies of the university Professor Dr Matiur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr Tazul Islam and Mrs Gul Nahar Nabi (wife of the VC), addressed the discussion as special guests.
Later, the VC distributed prizes among winners of the competitions on drawing, poem recitation and songs followed by cultural function moderated by Lecturer of the Department of Accounting & Information Systems Ahsanuzzaman.
The VC said ideals of Bangabandhu and spirit of the Liberation War will remain as our national guidelines from generations to generations in building a developed Sonar Bangla through foiling all conspiracies being hatched against the country and its people.
