Bangladesh might loss the opening match of the Super 10s to Pakistan by 55 runs but Soumya Sarkar’s overwhelming catch set the social media on fire.
The unbelievable effort which got the better of Mohammad Hafeez was praised by some cricketing greats along with the general fans but what could make Soumya pleased was the praise from Jonty Rhodes, unarguably the best fielder ever the world has seen.
Rhodes took his twitter to heap praise on Soumya as he wrote, “Saw some great stuff in the field from both teams last night; but what an effort from Sarkar.”
Hafeez fell for 64 off 42 balls, immediately after striking his seventh four. He was caught brilliantly by Soumya Sarkar at the deep midwicket boundary. The fielder grabbed the ball close to the boundary rope; the momentum took him over the line so he lobbed the ball in the air, came back on to the field and completed the catch. The agile effort was the only solace for Bangladesh in the first match.
Legendary cricketer Brian Lara also hailed the catch of Soumya. The West Indian great revealed his expression in just three words…”What a catch!”
Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle perhaps summed up the catch in prettiest way. “Find some words for that catch from Soumya Sarkar. You’ll struggle to find some that describe it well enough!”
