There is no alternative to study for entering into the world knowledge pool, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan said yesterday, reports BSS.
Referring to higher education, he said the goals and objectives of universities are creation of new knowledge, storage of knowledge and dissemination of knowledge, according to a release.
Addressing a function of the fresher’s reception ceremony for the newly enrolled students of Jahangirnagar University as the chief guest, the chairman said that huge expansion of higher education has taken place in the country over the years.
“The enrollment at tertiary level almost stands at 32 lakh, which is a big achievement for Bangladesh,” Professor Mannan added, the release said.
Jahangirnagar University organised the fresher’s reception ceremony with its Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam in the chair. Pro- Vice-Chancellor, treasurer, registrar, deans of different faculties, directors of different institutes, teachers and students of the university were present on the occasion, it added.
