SIM (subscriber identity module) cards of any telecom operators, if used in illegal VoIP activities, must be deactivated within three hours of detection.
Posts and Telecommuni-cations Division Secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury voiced the warning yesterday.
“If the operators fail to deactivate illegal VoIP SIMs within maximum three hours, legal actions will be taken against them,” he said.
He came up with the warning at a meeting with Chief Executive Officers of the telecom operators at the telecoms ministry. SIM verification using biometric system was on the agenda of the meeting.
He said state minister for posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim gave the instruction to them recently.
Recently, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) held a meeting to stop illegal VoIP activities.
