Five food shops fined
A mobile court accompanied by RAB personnel on Tuesday fined five food shops, confectionaries Taka six lakh in an anti-adulteration drive in the capitals Uttara area, said a statement of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday evening.
The mobile court fined six fast food shop and confectionaries for preparing food items and also supplying food in unhygienic condition. The mobile court fined Uttara Foods Products Tk two lakh, Puti Bakery and Confectionary Tk two lakh, Habib Bakery Tk one lakh and Chadni Bread and Confectionary Tk 1 lakh.
Two drug peddlers jailed
A Barisal court on Tuesday sentenced two drug peddlers to life term imprisonment.
Rafikul Islam, judge of the Tribunal for Preventing Crimes Against Public Safety handed down the verdict in absence of the both accused. The sentenced accused were Shah Alam, son of Alauddin Sheikh from Tungipara of Gopalganj and Kamrul Islam, son of late Rupchan Morol from Jhikargachha of Jessore. The court also fined each accused Tk 10,000 or to serve six months imprisonment in default. Court sources said a team of detective branch of Barisal Metropolitan Police in a drive searching a rickshaw van at Ichhakathi-Laden Sarak crossing under Barisal Airport Police Station seized 116 bottles of phensidyl and arrested the aforesaid two accused on January 16, 2013 late night.
Woman councilor suspended
A councilor of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) reserved for women was suspended temporary yesterday from her post as she was accused in different cases.
She was identified as Deva Rani Dey , councilor of Ward no 5. Local government ministry suspended her said Enamul Habib, chief executive officer of Sylhet City Corporation yesterday.
