Noor for reviving cultural heritage, resources of region

RAJSHAHI: Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor yesterday said cultural activities have a vital role towards freeing the society from unjust, unsocial and ugly manners, reports BSS.
"Culture, as a whole, advocates for humanity. Theatre and music fight against what is unjust, unsocial and ugly," he further said. He urged the teachers, students and researchers concerned to conduct in-depth research on music so that the field could be enriched furthermore.
Noor mentioned that the research could be the effective means of reviving the cultural heritage and resources of the region. He was addressing the inaugural session of a three-day international seminar and conference on Music at Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium of Rajshahi University here as the chief guest. Department of Music of RU organised the festival with the main theme of Music for Peace.
With Vice-chancellor Mijanuddin in the chair, Pro-VC Chowodhury Sarwar Jahan, Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Rajshahi Ovijit Chottopadhya, Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Sultan Abdul Ahmed and Department Chairman Asit Roy also spoke.
Noor said Bangladesh will definitely become culturally vibrant -- which is a dire need for the country's overall progress. “We are going through difficult times. We all must engage our efforts to bring back the lost pride and heritage of our cultural excellence in making a progressive Bangladesh”, he added.
Referring to the government's initiatives on the cultural front, Asaduzzaman Noor said Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has now reached at upazila levels. “We have almost completed the entire infrastructural works in all the districts”, he iformed the programme.
“But I doubt if local cultural organisations avail the opportunity of using those. I dream of resuming cultural activities at school, college and university levels”, Noor said.
There are three seminars and three conferences in the event. Large number of musicians, artists, researchers and students from India, USA and host Bangladesh are participating in the programme.
