A Sylhet court yesterday deferred the recoding of testimonies of witnesses till March 30 in the former finance minister SAMS Kibria murder case as only 12 accused out of 14 appeared before the court yesterday.
The Sylhet Speedy Trail Tribunal Court judge Mokbul Ahsan deferred the testimony recording as former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar and suspended Sylhet City Corporation mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury did not appear before the court on sickness ground. The court fixed March 30 and 31 for the next recording of testimonies. Earlier, on March 11, the court fixed the March 16, 2016 (yesterday) for recording the testimonies after two month stayed of this case.
Only15 people, out of 171 witnesses, so far made their depositions before the court. The recording of testimonies of this case began on September 30 by recording the testimony of Abdul Mozid Khan, a plaintiff of this case.
On September 13, a Sylhet court indicted 32 people, including former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar and suspended Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) mayor Ariful Haque, in the sensational murder case.
Five people, including Kibria, were killed and 70 others injured in a grenade attack on a public rally of local Awami League at Baidder Bazar in Sadar upazila on January 27, 2005.
Awami League leader Abdul Mozid Khan filed two cases one for murder and another under the Explosives Substances Act with the Habiganj Police Station the following day.
Kibria murder case was transferred to the Speedy Trial Tribunal Court from Habiganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on June 11 for its quick disposal. Earlier, assistant superintendent of CID Munshi Atique submitted a charge sheet against 10 BNP leaders and activists on March 19, 2005.
