Anti-tobacco campaigners in the capital yesterday demanded inserting pictorial health warning on tobacco packets following the proper guideline of anti-tobacco rules, reports UNB.
Using pictorial health warning on tobacco packets is well recognised globally to discourage people in using tobacco products, they said at a human chain programme in front of Jatiya Press Club.
Citing findings of a global study, the campaigners said a smoker sees pictorial warning of a cigarette packet 20 times a day during using and buying cigarettes while 7,000 times in a year.
If the pictorial health warning is inserted on tobacco packets properly, tobacco users will get message every time when they use tobacco, which will help them quit tobacco use, they said.
Earlier, they launched a three-day road show in the capital aiming to aware of adverse impact of tobacco on human health on Monday.
The anti-tobacco group of 12 organisations, including Dhaka Ahsania Mission, PROGGA, National Heart Foundation, Ubinig, WBB Trust and YPSA, held the road show at different parts of the city including
Uttara, Gulshan, Mirpur, Agergaon, Dhanmondi, New Market, Kakrail, Azimpur, Dhaka University, Bangamarket and Gulistan.
The Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Rule 2015 that made the use of pictorial health warning messages on packets of all tobacco products mandatory is set to come into effect on March 19 next.
