BNP blames govt for BB cyber heist

 The BNP yesterday claimed that the resignation of Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Dr Atiur Rahman proved that high-level people in the government were involved in the cyber heist of BB reserve money from the US Federal Bank in New York. “The resignation of the governor has proved that it's an incident of swindling. The head of the government and the finance minister can't avoid responsibility,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Addressing a press conference at the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan, Rizvi claimed that Rahman had been forced to tender his resignation after facing massive criticism over the incident. “The BNP demands the resignation of the government over the incident. The government is staging a drama and making a mockery of the people,” he said. The BNP leader also claimed that the amount of stolen money was more than Tk. 800 crore, which has been reported so far. “It's apparently USD 800 crore, which is equivalent to Tk. 6,500 crore,” he added. Rizvi said the government had destroyed the entire financial sector by plundering crores of taka from banks and financial institutions.
