The launching ceremony of ‘Twilight Ragas’, a full-featured raga-based album by renowned exponent of the Bishnupur Gharana, Guru Sangeetacharya Amiya Ranjan Bandyopadhyay was held on Monday at the Bengal Café of Bengal Foundation, Dhanmondi in the city. Noted researcher and musician Dr Karunamaya Goswami, along with director general of Bengal Foundation Luva Nahid Chowdhury, noted singer Subir Nandi and Nazrul Sangeet singer Sadia Afrin Mallik, unveiled the cover of the album. The album contains the raga songs ‘Raag Puriya Kalyan’ and ‘Raag Joyjoyonti’. Arumoy Dey and Sujit Saha on tabla, and Ajoy Chakraborty on harmonium accompanied the singer in the album. After the launching ceremony, singer Amiya Ranjan Bandyopadhyay performed Khayal accompanied by Iftekhar Alam Prodhan on tabla, Fakir Sumon on harmonium, Sushanta Sarkar and Surendranath Roy on tanpura. Born on February 21, 1927 in a family with a rich musical tradition, dating back one hundred and fifty years, Pandit Amiya Ranjan Bandyopadhyay is one of the most renowned exponents of Khayal in the country. Son and disciple of Sangeetacharya Satya Kinkar Bandyopadhyay, Pandit Bandyopadhyay is the scion of the Bishnupur gharana. Since the fifties, Pandit Bandyopadhyay has remained an established and highly esteemed artiste. He is a `Top` grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. He has been performing at all the major music festivals and gatherings in the country and has travelled to the USA and Europe to perform and lecture on Indian Classical Music.
