Tarana to meet CEOs after HC rule

The Posts and Telecommunications Division is going to organize a meeting of all CEOs of mobile phone companies  on biometric SIM registration today (Wednesday). The state minister for posts and telecommunications, Tarana Halim, will be in the chair. The state minister has called the meeting, to be held at 10:00am in the meeting room of the division at the secretariat. This follows the High Court asking the authorities to explain within a week why collecting information about citizens through biometric registration of mobile phone SIMs (subscriber identity modules) should not be declared illegal.
Earlier, Tarana Halim urged people to register their SIM/RIM, using the biometric fingerprint, without fear which in turn will help arrest terrorists. Tarana told the media that the fingerprint taken for biometric process is a binary digital code and using this in some other way is next to impossible. Thus, she urged people to register the SIM/Rim through this process and not get confused by propaganda. She also added that many people are spreading wrong news about the biometric process on Facebook.
To stop this, the state minister called a meeting. The staff of the ministry, Brig Gen Sultanuzzaman Md Saleh Uddin, director general of the EC’s National Identification Registration Wing, Emadul Bari, BTRC director, Rezaul Haider CID police super, and AMTOB head Nurul Kabir were present.
