Bangladesh Navy accorded a warm reception to its athletes who have brought laurels for the country from the recently held SA Games in New Delhi.
The reception was held yesterday at Sagarika Hall of Naval Headquarters in the capital, according to an ISPR press release.
The Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Mohammad Nizamuddin Ahmed attended the function as chief guest and distributed prizes among the successful athletes of Navy who represented the country.
Navy athletes won two gold and 14 bronze medals. Female swimmer Mahfuza Khatun Shila alone triumphed a couple of gold medals in 50 and 100 metre breaststroke which included a new record in the regional Games. She also helped Bangladesh win a bronze in relay event.
Besides the medal winners athletes of SA Games, Bangladesh Navy also gave a reception to Navy swimmers who won gold and silver medals from World Long Distance Swimming.
A total of 39 athletes and five officials of Navy took part for Bangladesh in swimming, track &field hockey, football, volleyball, basketball and kabaddi.
The Naval chief congratulated all medal winning athletes and urged the Naval athletes to keep up their success in international field in future. “I think the success of Naval athletes has taken the country to a new height. I urge all Navy athletes to keep up their continuous training for the development of sports,” said Vice Admiral Mohammad Nizamuddin.
