A daylong ‘Basanta Utsab’, spring festival, was held at Dhaka University's Mall Chattar with spectacular presentation of traditional music, drama and recitation of poems, reports BSS.
"Culture is our strength... the Bangali nation had waged all democratic movements, including Language Movement, and as well as Independence Movement imbued with the cultural spirit," Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique said while addressing the inaugural session of the festival.
Dhaka University Cultural Society staged the festival, first of its kind.
Referring cultural difference is one of the major differences between Bangalees and Pakistanis, DU VC said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had always put emphasis on the practices of folk cultures of rural Bangla.
He said culture practice reveals the beliefs, thoughts and heritage of a nation.
