A woman has allegedly gouged out the eyes of her husband at Malikhali village in Nazirpur upazila on Saturday night. The victim is Mahabub Molla, 35, a resident of North Mithakhali village in Mathbaria upazila. He has been admitted to the Khulna Medical College Hospital. Police have arrested his wife Fazila Begum for her suspected involvement in the incident. Fazila Begum said her husband works at the home of one Moazzem Sheikh at Sheikhmatia village in Nazirpur upazila. She said: “On Thursday, my husband came to visit his father-in-law’s house. On Saturday night, he was caught by the locals when he was stealing betel leaf in a garden at Malikhalitutbari and they gouged out his two eyes. The next (Sunday) morning, locals found him lying by the side of Tutbari road and sent to Nazirpur health complex. Later, he was shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.”
But victim Mahabub rejected the story narrated by his wife alleging that his wife Fazila, brother-in-laws Asgar, Faizul and Babul tied his hands and legs and gouged out
his eyes.
Nasir Uddin Mallik, OC of Nazirpur police station, said victim Mahabub had been involved in various crimes in the area. Police will investigate the incident, he said.
